Patient Safety for Boards

Patient safety has never been higher on the agenda of the NHS. Indeed, the House of Commons Select Committee on Health is recommending that Patient Safety should as a standard be the first item on all NHS board agendas.

Datix is collaborating with the Good Governance Institute (GGI) to produce a cutting edge White Paper on "What Every NHS Board Member Needs To Know About Patient Safety". With the Care Quality Commission proposing to make incident reporting a mandatory registration requirement for all healthcare organisations and "candour" legislation in the pipeline NHS boards will be needing to make a stepped change in how they manage patient safety in the coming years.

The Datix/GGI patient safety report is being developed in collaboration with NHS colleagues and other opinion leaders and is to be published in January 2010. Regional workshops and a national symposium are being held to shape the advice, which will include a model board report template on patient safety issues.

Jonathan Hazan, Datix CEO said "We are delighted to be supporting the development of this report. Most Trusts and PCTs are now sitting on top of a mountain of patient safety data, and some great improvement work is being done in NHS organisations. We can add considerable value to spreading best practice and helping NHS board members grapple with this crucial responsibility."
